In Riohacha, 2.7 tons of rice were distributed to the families hit by climate.
In a joint effort conducted by the Colombian Navy and the Government of the Department of La Guajira, in coordination with the World Food Program (WFP), Colombian National Army, the National Police, the Colombian Red Cross, the Civil Defense, the ICBF, among other organizations, began the distribution of aid in the department of La Guajira, hit by the second rainy season that has hit the country in recent days.
In the early hours of the morning, the Amphibious Landing Ship ARC Golfo de Urabá arrived in the sector known as Amas Sai, in Riohacha, to begin the embarkation of the aid that was arranged, in order to provide humanitarian assistance to the communities in Alta Guajira, which remain isolated due to the severe floods in the region.
On board the ARC Golfo de Urabá and the Navy Infantry trucks of the National Navy, which will arrive at seven nodal points identified at the Alta Guajira region facing adverse weather and terrain conditions, more than 150 tons of basic necessities and groceries will be transported, including food, toilet kits, drinking water, among others.
Jairo Aguilar Deluque, governor of the Department of La Guajira, highlighted the importance of this operation, noting that “the union of efforts conducted by institutions and organizations leads to providing support in a timely manner to those who need it most, bringing hope to the disturbed communities.”
In Riohacha, 2.7 tons of rice managed by the Colombian Navy were distributed to the Minuto de Dios Corporation, to start the assistance to the beaten of this municipality.
For 15 days, the ARC Golfo de Urabá and the vehicles of the Navy Infantry Mobility Battalion will have the mission of transporting and distributing humanitarian aid in Bahía Honda, Bahía Hondita, Castilletes, Karasúa, Puerto Bolívar, Puerto Estrella and Puerto López, with the support of 71 members of the different authorities and institutions.
