In the operation to protect civilians, three illegal combatants of that organized armed group died in the course of the military operation, one was arrested and two more, who were injured, were assisted by combat nurses who provided humanitarian care
In compliance with the Ayacucho Joint Strategic Campaign Plan, and in joint, coordinated and inter-institutional operations against the organized armed groups that commit crimes in the department of Chocó, in the last few hours the Military Forces and the Police supported with judicial processes of the Attorney General of the Nation, dealt a heavy blow against the criminal and logistical structures of the GAO Clan del Golfo.
This is how in the rural area of the municipality of Medio Baudó in a jungle area, difficult to access and with adverse weather, troops engaged firefight against a group that was carrying out criminal operations such as forced displacement, drug trafficking, extortion, forced recruitment of minors, illegal exploitation of mining sites, confinement, homicides among others.
In that event, three illegal combatants were killed in the course of military operations, two more were injured and one was arrested, who were part of the security of Alias Firulais, the main ringleader of the Baudó GAO Clan del Golfo substructure.
Once the area was consolidated and in compliance with and respect for the principles of International Humanitarian Law, the same soldiers who minutes before had been attacked by these criminals of the Clan del Golfo, provided first aid to the wounded. As soon as the meteorological conditions were appropriate, an Angel helicopter of the Colombian Air Force evacuated the two wounded to a specialized assistance center in the city of Medellin where they are receiving medical assistance at this time.
Rifles, machineguns, explosive material, vests, military accessories, ammunition, communications equipment and anti-personnel mines were found by troops; these elements put the lives of the communities in the area at serious risk.
This structure of the GAO Clan del Golfo is responsible, last March, for having influenced the confinement of the people of the indigenous reserve of Puesto Indio, on the Cugucho River, in the Alto Baudó region. Right there, criminals of the GAO Clan del Golfo would have murdered a minor, sowing fear and sadness among these people who work the land with subsistence plantations.
At this time, military operations continue in the rural area of Baudó, Chocó department, with the aim of continuing to hit the different criminal groups that have been hitting civilians and the regional economy.
