This year, the Colombian Navy has found 196 tons of cocaine hydrochloride and more than 48 tons of marijuana, preventing illegal money from reaching drug trafficking organizations.
Air and maritime units of the Colombian Navy, together with air assets of the Colombian Air Force, carried out a maritime interdiction operation in the Caribbean Sea on a Go Fast boat, manned by three individuals, two of which were Costa Rican and one Nicaraguan, who were transporting the drug shipment, apparently destined for Central America.
The aircraft carried out a detailed trace of the boat, and thanks to the command and control of the Missile Frigate ARC Almirante Padilla, it was possible to guide the Unit of Rapid-Reaction Guard attached to the Specific Command of San Andres and Providence, which found and intercepted the boat 150 nautical miles of the Island of San Andr茅s.
The individuals, when noticing the work of the authorities, manipulated the boat, generating the overturning and its subsequent sinking, so that the Coast Guard crew in a timely and agile reaction rescued the individuals of the water and recovered 26 bags of different sizes apparently narcotic.
The individuals, along with the illegal merchandise, were transported to the San Andr茅s Coast Guard Station, where the Initial Preliminary Approved Test was conducted on the packages, leaving positive result for 965 kilograms of marijuana. The men and the illicit substance were given to the Attorney General's Office.
This operation was carried out thanks to the operational synergy and joint work conducted by Surface Units, Rapid Reaction Units of the Coast Guard and air assets of the Colombian Navy and the Colombian Air Force, leading this type of union to hit the finances of illegal groups of drug trafficking that commit crimes in the region.
