These structures, which will be used in the most remote places of the country to improve the mobility of peasants, arrived in the country after several efforts made by the General Commander of the Military Forces in meetings held in the north of the continent.
At the National Training Center of Colombian National Army, in the Military Fort of Tolemaida, General Laura J. Richardson Commander of the Southern Command of the United States, provided 10 semi-permanent modular structures (military bridges) which were received by General Helder Giraldo Bonilla, General Commander of the Military Forces, and which will be used to contribute to the social and economic development of the most remote regions of the country.
Each of the 10 Acrow bridges, manufactured in the United States, are made of metal and have a length of more than 60 meters, has a width of about four meters and has a capacity to support about 52 tons.
The donation, which represents a contribution of more than 11 million dollars, comes after the constant efforts made by the Commander of the Military Forces, General Helder Giraldo before the Southern Command in his most recent visits to the United States, where good relations led to the arrival today of these structures.
According to preliminary information, these military bridges will serve to provide support in possible emergencies that may arise in different parts of the country, because of the upcoming wave of rains. On average, each structure is assembled in an average of 7 to 10 days by military engineers, who, in addition, in the last 19 months have installed 13 military bridges in Casanare, Santander, Cundinamarca, Norte de Santander Department, Choc贸 department, Magdalena, Nari帽o and Antioquia.
The General Command of the Military Forces ordered that these 10 Acrow bridges remain under the custody of the Brigade of Military Engineers of Colombian National Army in Tolemaida, which will be available to the national authorities to be used when required, and in this way contribute to the improvement of the quality of life, as well as to the well-being and development of the Colombian people.
