The manual demining tasks carried out by soldiers of the Humanitarian Demining Engineer Battalion No.4, led to finding an unexploded ordnance in the village Caño Evaristo.
The explosive device that had apparently been in the rural area of Mapiripán, Meta, for five years was destroyed by the mine clearance specialists, thus clearing 28,836 square meters.
In this regard, Lieutenant Colonel Diego Fernando Reina Garzón, commander of the Humanitarian Demining Engineer Battalion No.4, said: “Our soldiers who carry out manual demining work, in the village Caño Evaristo, destroy an unexploded ordnance, which apparently has been in the area for five years; with this destruction we are able to benefit 257 inhabitants who now travel more calmly to carry out the different tourist activities, to be able to appreciate the natural attractions of the Guaviare River, the lagoons, the landscapes of savannas and forests in the municipality.”
The intervention in the same way benefits the peasants who will be able to continue growing the different agricultural products and continue with livestock farming, one of the main sources of income, which they were not constantly exercising for fear of death traps.
Thus, the mine clearance specialists of the National Army improve the quality of life and the free movement of people and children from different schools who had to travel long distances to reach their destinations.
