The Colombian Navy, in a joint river operation with the National Army and coordinated with the National Police, carried out the controlled destruction of 10 rudimentary dredges and 20 motor pumps in Caucasia, Antioquia.
The 10 artisanal dredgers were allegedly used for illegal exploitation of mining deposits on the Cauca River near the municipality of Caucasia. This is a prohibited practice due to its high impact and the environmental damage caused by the machinery and the use of mercury.
The permanent work of the troops of the Navy River Battalion No.17 of the Colombian Navy, troops of the National Army and units of the National Police, led to this operation due to the constant work of control and surveillance in the main river arteries, managing to timely find these illegal mining operations in the region.
With this neutralization a serious blow is being dealt to the financial system of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, which no longer receives 24 million pesos a month as product of illicit activities. No arrests were made during the operation.
