Marine Infantry cadets of the Colombian Navy trained at the Fort Moore base of the United States Army
For four weeks, 47 Navy Infantry cadets of the Naval Cadet School Almirante Padilla trained in leadership at the Fort Moore base in the state of Georgia, United States, together with cadets of the Paraguayan Army and the Honduran Navy.
The course was given by the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation – WHINSEC, there students obtained basic skills for the exercise of leadership at the tactical level, which is part of the cooperation operations that Colombia maintains with the North American country; leading them to complement the knowledge obtained during their school stage and experience new military, cultural and academic practices.
“This course is a cornerstone of our commitment to fostering solid and ethical military leaders and units for the future. Our focus here is to develop leadership qualities essential for military Officers; this includes critical thinking, effective communication and the ability to make decisions under pressure. At WHINSEC we place a heavy emphasis on ethics and Human Rights; our students learn the importance of leading with integrity and respect for everyone, they in the same way get an invaluable experience working together with colleagues from all over the Western Hemisphere, forming a spirit of cooperation and international understanding,” reported Major Benjamin Martinez, Head of the WHINSEC leader Development Division.
During their stay, students trained in reading nautical charts, Human Rights, ethics and democracy in the Military Forces, leadership theories, troop leadership procedure, practical land navigation exercise and terrain association, instruction in land operations and convoy simulators, first aid, training in urban and aquatic combat environments.
“This course was designed to train Cadets of the different participating countries in terms of leadership development in military operations. In the same way, it gives tools to our Navy Infantry Cadets so that in the future they can serve as leaders within the framework of these skills,” said Navy Infantry Captain Jesús Luna Benítez, Tactical Officer of the course.
At the end of the training, Brigadier Emmanuel Pertuz Herrera received the leadership award and stated that “as Navy Infantry Officers of future, this course serves us to learn how to lead troops and within the framework of military operations.”
