This National Army officer, 22 years old, born in Villavicencio, always dreamed of marking a milestone in the institution, and today she is doing so.
The second lieutenant Ortiz's, Weapon of Infantry, with just one year in the grade, and after four years of preparation in the Military School of Cadets José María Córdova, is the first woman to be specialized in the Medium Infantry, accredited after the successful completion of the course Tactical Platforms of Medium Infantry, which is directed to counter the potential threats that may arise, through the planning, organization, and attack, using vehicles LAV 8X8 and M113 A2.
This military woman carries on her shoulders the responsibility of being commander of the company Buitre of the Mechanized Infantry Battalion No.6 Cartagena, in Riohacha, La Guajira.
The officer, who is in charge of 64 men, is in the same way prepared to direct military operations focused on providing security to the communities that live in this region of the country. Her dedication, commitment and specialization in Medium Infantry led her to be one of the commanders of the troops that will provide security on the different roads, rural areas and urban centers of the department during the coming elections.
Ortiz sees herself as a heavy woman, empowered and able to achieve everything in life, this is shown by her audacity to contribute in the planning of military strategies, joint and coordinated, focused to neutralize the logistical and financial scaffolding of the criminal organizations that converge in the north of the country.
This young woman dreams of being a battalion commander, as well as of a Brigade or Division, positions in which she would coordinate military operations that led the consolidation of the territories and work for the security of different areas of Colombia.
The officer who will have a great responsibility with security in the department of La Guajira on March 13 during the elections sends a message to women who dream of being a military: “It is an excellent profession, women are capable of fulfilling everything we set out in life; it is not easy, but neither impossible.”
This military woman will continue to train and put her knowledge and skills at the service of the communities of La Guajira, since her daily inspiration is to help the Colombian inhabitants.
