The implementation is part of the Cartagena BASIC project in which the Naval Institution participates.
The Almirante Padilla Naval Cadet School was the place for the launch event of the online platform of the early warning system for the waters of Cartagena Bay, called Cartagena Bay Observatory, carried out by the Cartagena BASIC project, which links the EAFIT University, the University of Cartagena, Cardique, Establecimiento Público Ambiental – EPA and Almirante Padilla Naval Cadet School, in collaboration with the University of the Algarve and Colab+Atlantic in Portugal.
The platform for public use, contains information on oceanographic variables of the Bay of Cartagena at three different depths, and in real time, historical data, as well as forecasts that take the user to make decisions regarding water management in this sector. In the same way, it has an option to calculate hypothetical spill environments and thus facilitate their management and containment.
The access to technological aid that leads to inform about the conditions of the level of pollution in the waters and encourages the creation of public awareness about the preservation of water resources and the good use of them; it is done through the following link: http://bahiacartagena.omega.eafit.edu.co/
Officials of the Faculty of Physical Oceanography of the Naval Cadet School Almirante Padilla, students of the Professional Complementation Course in Oceanography of the ENAP, EAFIT University, Environmental Public Establishments – EPA, Regional Corporation of the Dique Canal – CARDIQUE, and National Natural Parks of Colombia – PNN, participated in the event, where the demonstration and operational training was carried out.
The Almirante Padilla Naval Cadet School, committed to the management and preservation of water resources, participates, through the Oceanology research group, in this type of research and development initiatives that in the same way strengthens the collaborative relationship with government organizations and national and international schools.
