The successful plantation substitution program continues producing great results, in Vichada.
In a historic event for people from Vichada, the largest harvest was transported in a single flight by the Colombian Air Force. 5,200 kilos of premium cacao were shipped on the C-295 aircraft from Cumaribo to Bogotá to be marketed.
The “Triángulo del Cacao” (Cacao zone), which is make up of the villages of Güerima, Puerto Príncipe and Chupave, in the municipality of Cumaribo, in the department of Vichada, was immersed in illicit activities. Some years ago, its inhabitants accepted an opportunity presented by the Colombian Air Force. Today, their lives have totally changed.
Since 2012, the families of El Triángulo have improved their techniques, so they have achieved great results, which were possible thanks to the unconditional support of the FAC (Colombian Air Force) through its aircraft. The producers have the security and confidence that the cacao will be delivered to the private company.
This initiative, from its beginning, had the support of the Presidency of the Republic, the Governor of Vichada, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), who have accompanied and advised farmers permanently. Today, 826 families are enrolled in the Comprehensive National Program of Substitution of Illicit Plantations.
Promote peace and obtain rewards. There are already 527 hectares of coca voluntarily replaced, in a region whose economic livelihood is based on legal activities. Cacao is a product that is present on the tables of all Colombians thanks to the union and effort of the authorities with the inhabitants of Vichada.
