In a military ceremony presided over by Major General Álvaro Vicente Pérez Duran, Commander of Joint Command No.2 South West, the fourth anniversary of the activation of the Joint Stabilization and Consolidation Task Force Hercules, a flagship unit of the Colombian Military Forces, was held.
After its four years of activation, this important unit symbolizes perseverance, decision, work and selfless dedication for the well-being of the Colombian people and particularly for the inhabitants of the Pacific region in Nariño.
The mission of the members of this unit of the January 9, 2018 is the fight against organized armed groups who commit crimes in the west of the department of Nariño, leading the neutralization of more than 2,000 members of illegal structures, the finding of more than 43 tons of cocaine, the destruction of more than 1,200 illegal laboratories for the production of narcotic drugs and the finding of more of 8,200 long and short range firearms. These figures demonstrate the operational effectiveness over 16 thousand square kilometers of land area spread over 10 municipalities (Barbacoas, Tumaco, Maguì Payan, Roberto Payan, Francisco Pizarro, Olaya Herrera, El Charco, Mosquera, La Tola, and Santa Barbara).
The Joint Task Force Hercules has been the object of works that contribute to the social development such as the construction of roads, Junín–Barbacoas and the way the Espriella – Mataje, operations that contribute significantly to the stabilization and consolidation of the territory. In the same way through the operations of civilians and military cooperation, we have made the adequacy and improvement of rural schools which contribute to improve the education levels of the region.
On the other hand, the commander of the South West Joint Command No.2 Major General Álvaro Vicente Pérez Duran granted the Batalla de Ayacucho Medal to the Flag of War of the Joint Task Force Hercules and the Fe en la Causa Medal to a group of Officers, non-commissioned officers, soldiers, police officers and the mayor of the municipality of Barbacoas, Nariño.
The protocol ceremony was in the same way attended by the commanders of the minor operational units of the Joint Task Force Hercules, as well as civil ecclesiastical authorities, and representatives of the Pacific society of Nariño.
The land, river and air components of the Hercules Joint Task Force are committed to continue to conduct security operations that will bring tranquility to this important region of the country, contributing to the development and institutional control of the territory through the continuous execution of joint, coordinated and inter-institutional operations.
