In a gesture of solidarity and commitment to the memory of those who have not yet returned to their homes, the Colombian Military Forces join the commemoration of the International Week of the Disappeared Detainee, from May 27 to 31. This is not only an opportunity to remember those who have disappeared in the armed conflict, but in the same way to reflect on the importance of justice, truth and reparation.
According to the single registry of victims of the Unit for Comprehensive Attention and Reparation to Victims (UARIV), more than 475,683 members of the Military Forces have been hit by the conflict, 9,700 of them are missing. These figures, beyond being chilling, represent human stories, broken families who are still looking for answers and waiting to hear of their relatives.
For decades, organized armed groups perpetrated disappearances as part of their criminal and criminal strategy. This legacy of pain and suffering has spread through various regions of Colombia, leaving indelible scars on society. However, the Military Forces, through the Joint Strategic Transition Command, are working to contribute to the search for truth and justice.
The General Command of the Colombian military Forces is constant in its permanent coordination and support with the extrajudicial mechanism and interaction with the Missing Persons Search Unit (UBPD), sharing crucial information to find the disappeared in compliance with the inter-administrative agreement 001/2024. This joint work seeks not only to find those who are still absent, but in the same way to honor their memory.
