According to military intelligence information, it is presumed that this laboratory had been used for drug production for approximately four years, whose monthly capacity was 1,000 kilograms of cocaine.
In the course of inter-institutional military operations, National Army troops, together with the Attorney General's Office and its Investigative Technical Staff, the National Police and the DEA, Drug Control Administration, made the finding of a mega cocaine hydrochloride production laboratory that, apparently, belonged to the Jaime Toño Obando company, Comuneros del Sur Front, of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Eln.
This complex had seven structures used for the elaboration of the narcotic, as well as living spaces used by the personnel in charge of the different tasks of the production.
At the site the troops found about 190 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride, 100 kilograms of coca paste base, 275 gallons of fuel, 380 kilograms of solid precursors and 990 gallons of liquid precursors. A large amount of machinery and equipment for the preparation of the drug was in the same way destroyed. This operation produces a significant loss in constructions and chemical substances with an estimated cost of four billion pesos.
On the other hand, while the troops were carrying out the procedure, the inhabitants, apparently being used by the Organized Armed Group, tried to prevent the procedures by sedition.
With this neutralization, the production and commercialization of one thousand kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride per month was prevented, which would have an approximate cost of 30 billion pesos, directly harming the finances of this organized armed group and in turn preventing the acquisition of war material, military accessories and communications, which would be used to perpetrate operations against civilians, critical constructions and the Military Forces.
The National Army will continue to work with other State institutions to ensure security and tranquility for the inhabitants of the department of Nariño.
