More than 20 tons of humanitarian aid were sent from Rionegro, Antioquia, to the islands of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina, with the support of a Boeing 767 Jupiter of the Colombian Air Force.
When the hurricane Iota's transited through the islands, solidarity flooded the hearts of people living in the Department of Antioquia and professional officers of the Colombian air force reserve, in what they have called a network of love, made alliances with public and private institutions to support those who need it most.
FiProvidence became a network with collection points at the national level, where solidarity of Colombians sent aid such as non-perishable food, medicines, blankets, clothing, toilet elements, biosecurity, and construction elements, among others. In the case of Antioquia, approximately 50 tons of humanitarian aid have been collected from November 2020 to date.
“In the islands of Providencia and Santa catalina there are two distribution points that function as Solidarity Community markets, where hit families can access basic necessities,” said Sandy Hincapie, who has been leading this initiative.
