As part of the strengthening of bilateral relations and international cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization - NATO, and its allied countries, the Colombian Navy received Admiral Robert Peter Bauer, Head of the NATO Military Committee, at the Caribbean Naval Force facilities in Cartagena, who visited this strategic unit of the Naval Institution and got to know first-hand its resources for defense and security in the Caribbean region.
It should be noted that in 2017 Colombia became the first Latin American country to join NATO in the category of Global Partner, this through the subscription of the Individual Partnership Cooperation Program (IPCP), clarifying that, for this, all NATO allied countries had to agree.
“It is extremely important to have a global partner like Colombia because there is no regional security but global security... there are solutions and regional cooperation, and therefore it is very important to work with our allies all over the world, of the Indo-Pacific to the Caribbean and Africa, because by talking to each other and working together we understand the situation in the regions better and therefore we can work in a much better and more effective way on solutions for security,” Admiral Bauer said during the visit.
