In a formal ceremony held at the Military Fort of Tolemaida, the demining soldiers received two trucks for mobile workshops, a truck and a platform for containers, which will improve mobility to transport the mine-clearing equipment used in the mechanical demining technique, among other elements.
With the donation, the government of Japan reaffirms its support for humanitarian demining to ensure that Colombian territory is free of suspicion of anti-personnel mines.
“We, Japan, care this and it is very import and a priority to cooperate in this field, because demining is very important not only of the humanitarian point of view but in the same way for the regions hit by the conflict, so we want to help the efforts of the Colombian people to achieve peace. We sincerely hope that these machines will contribute to the efforts of this demining Brigade,” emphasized Takasugi Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan.
For her part, Sandra Álzate, Deputy Minister of National Defense, said that this donation is an effort that have led Colombia to become a global reference in humanitarian demining and in the fight against improvised explosive devices.
