Within the framework of international cooperation conducted by the Colombian Navy and the French Navy, the ship Dumont D'urville joined the logistical support for the reconstruction of San Andr茅s, Providencia and Santa Catalina, which were hit by the hurricane Iota.
The ship visited the ARC Naval Base Bol铆var, where it was received by Rear Admiral Juan Ricardo Rozo Obreg贸n, Commander of the Caribbean Naval Force in order to strengthen the bonds of partnership between the two countries and complement logistical and operational efforts to support the reconstruction of the islands of Providencia and Santa Catalina.
The French ship sailed to comply a fundamental mission of logistical support. It transported 44.6 tons of building materials and appliances, coordinated by ARC Naval Base Bol铆var and the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) with the purpose of contributing to the improvement of the quality of life of all the inhabitants of the archipelago.
Once the ship arrived San Andr茅s, it was received by Rear Admiral Hernando Mattos Dager, Commander of the Specific Command of San Andr茅s and Providencia. The ship, which will be in San Andr茅s for 3 days and which is commanded by Captain Fr茅d茅ric Ollive, is part of the French Navy since 2019 and has a high level of preparation and automation in its equipment that allow to carry out humanitarian missions with a suitable crew made up of 24 people, who ensure an effective operational deployment.
It is important to note that France is the second country -after the United States- that complements the work of reconstruction of the islands of Providencia and Santa Catalina through the deployment of logistic support units, which are coordinated within the framework of the Unified Operation of the State.
In this way, the Colombian Navy and the French Navy ratify their commitment to deploy resources and human talent for the strengthen of the island, thus contributing to the reconstruction work and comprehensive accompaniment to the communities of the island of Providencia and Santa Catalina, hit by the hurricane Iota.
