At the Naval Base A.R.C Bolívar, based in Cartagena de Indias, the Fourth Command and Control Interoperability Board (CCIB) conducted by Colombia and the United States was carried out.
It was attended by representatives of the Southern Command (Southcom) headed by Colonel (in retirement) Michael Droz, Deputy Director of Operations (J3), and officers and non-commissioned officers of the Colombian Military Forces led by Colonel Juan Diego Páez Gonzalez, Director of Operations External Planning of the Joint Operations Department.
The meeting was established under the terms of the Communications and Information Security Memorandum of Understanding (Cismoa) signed by both countries in 2004 whose objective is to ensure the operational efficiency and interoperability of Tactical Command and Control under military standards and common procedures so that the Military Forces of the United States and Colombia can carry out combined operations.
During the meeting, different presentations were made by representatives of both issues military operations and technical communications, in order to present technological capabilities, make recommendations, deliberate and discuss the different aspects related to the common needs to achieve in the medium term. The military forces must be interoperable and have a joint command and control system to direct combined operations in the Western Hemisphere or wherever according to the level of threat.
The tangible product at the end of the Fourth meeting was materialized through a commitment document that contains the list of activities to be carried out from today until June 2020 where the next meeting to reduce the existing technological, doctrinal and procedural gap will be conducted by both countries.
