Two long years missing his family were her motivation to make the decision to escape.
Alias Juliana was illegally entered the ranks of a residual Organized Armed Group, when she was only 16 years old. Since her recruiting she received training in explosives handling and nursing, her most recent assignment was being a camp officer.
Life in hiding, marked by the constant fear of confrontations and arrest, plunged her into a deep anxiety. However, the longing to be reunited with her mother and the hope of a different life prompted her to escape.
When she turned 18, she decided to leave her hard experience in the department of Cauca behind and it was in Algeciras, Huila, where she found the support she was looking for; she appeared before troops of the High Mountain Battalion No. 9 of the Ninth Brigade, and she expressed her longing to surrender to justice. Today, the process to receive the benefits provided by the national Government is ongoing through the Humanitarian Assistance Group for the Demobilized.
Juliana's story is a testament to the resilience and hope that persists even in the most adverse circumstances. Her bravery in leaving the armed ranks and seeking a life in peace is an example for those who seek to get out of violence and build a better future for Colombia.
