With the Pre-Antarctic Course, the personnel obtained the basic and safety skills to carry out their activities on the white continent.
A group of 70 expedition members, including 23 scientific researchers, is ready to overcome the vicissitudes that may arise during the X Colombian expedition to Antarctica in the austral summer 2023 -2024. They received the basic instruction and training in the Pre-Antarctic Course that took place from October 23 to 27 aboard the Naval Cadet School Almirante Padilla, in Cartagena.
The preparation course is carried out in coordination with the Colombian Ocean Group, and has the support of the Maritime General Directorate and the International Coast Guard School. This is the second group of expeditionary people to be trained in this year 2023 and complements the 47 expeditionary people who were trained in the month of August at this Maritime University.
The instruction was divided into three modules oriented to the knowledge of the Antarctic Treaty System and the Colombian Antarctic Program; the preparations for the expedition and the management of Antarctic conditions; as well as the training in Survival Resources.
With a practical theoretical methodology, the expeditionary staff carried out communication and navigation exercises in the simulators of the Research, Development and Innovation Center for Maritime Activities of the Naval School and visited the ARC ship Sim贸n Bol铆var in which they will sail to the icy waters of the white continent.
The training activity culminated with a survival activity in which they did different survival techniques both in a controlled aquatic environment and in the sea.
