Bogotá D.C., October 21, 2021. The Colombian Military Forces were recognized in the city of Medellín, with The exemplary Colombian Award, granted each year by the newspaper El Colombiano in categories such as: solidarity, culture, environment, sport, business, science and technology, children, tourism, Colombians abroad, health, and this year in the category of commitment against COVID-19.
The distinction is granted by this newspaper since 1999 to people and institutions that every day work to build a better society and seek the collective good. It recognized on this occasion the work of the General Directorate of Military Health thanks to the work carried out by members of the National Army, the Colombian Navy, the Air Force and the health personnel, who have been at the forefront and available in the battle against the Coronavirus.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Military Forces with the Directorate-General for Health and Military Health of the Army, the Health office of the Air Force and the navy health, directed the work in the framework of the Operation San Roque and Operation San Roque II and in that frame, they centralized efforts in the prevention, containment, health care and immunization of the users of the Subsystem.
The award recognizes the work of the Health offices of the Military Forces, headed by Major General Hugo Alejandro López Barreto, who today reaffirm their commitment to continue working for the assistance of affiliates and soldiers of land, sea, air and river, as well as continue to fight nationally against COVID-19, in order to guarantee the country the commitment to face the pandemic and thus continue to fulfill the institutional mission.
