According to information provided by the Municipal Risk Management Council of Alpujarra, Tolima, a large-scale forest fire has been damaging the village of Guasimal, in the municipality of Alpujarra. The fire, which has been active for three days, has consumed approximately 250 hectares, complicating control efforts due to difficult access conditions and the high thermal load in the area.
Given the seriousness of the situation and the difficulties in carrying out ground work, the Colombian Air Force, through the Air Combat Command No. 4, CACOM 4, and in coordination with the National Personnel Recovery Center, CENRP, has used the bambi bucket system. This operation has led to the water drop of approximately 2,500 gallons of water and 15 gallons of retardant liquid, which has been essential to contain the flames and protect the natural environment.
The crew of this mission has played a crucial role in protecting the inhabitants and natural resources. With courage and precision, they have flown over areas that are difficult to access, facing adverse conditions to carry out strategic water drops that have prevented the spread of the fire to near areas.
