This finding prevented the commercialization of approximately 200 thousand doses of marijuana on the international illegal market.
During maritime patrol and control activities in the Archipelago Department, the Colombian Navy in a multinational operation with the Joint Interagency Task Force of the Southern Command of the United States - JIATFS, seized more than a ton of marijuana and two kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride, which were being transported aboard a Go Fast type boat that was sailing suspiciously and at high speed approximately 107 nautical miles of the island of San Andrés.
The operation began upon receiving an alert about a suspicious ship, and a Rapid Reaction Unit of the Coast Guard Station of San Andrés was deployed, which after an intense pursuit intercepted the boat and put an end to its criminal intent. During the interception, the boat's crew members left different sacks at sea, which were recovered by Coast Guard personnel. Five crew members were found by troops inside the ship, three of Nicaraguan nationality and two Costa Ricans.
Subsequently, the individuals along with the illegal merchandise were taken to the dock of the Coast Guard Station of San Andrés and put into custody of the authorities for the alleged crime of manufacturing, carrying and trafficking narcotics.
Units of the Technical Investigation Staff of the Attorney General's Office carried out the Approved Preliminary Identification Test, which left a positive result for 1.1 tons of marijuana and two kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.
It should be noted that the substances are valued at more than seven million dollars on the illegal market.
