The Colombian Navy has activated a humanitarian assistance operation to provide support in the emergency caused by the rains that hits the department of Chocó since last November 08.
Faced with the emergency throughout the department, which has left more than 150,000 people and 37,223 families disturbed in 25 municipalities, the Naval Institution through the Navy Infantry River Battalion No.16 has sent all its logistical, human and military operations resources to provide support to the vulnerable inhabitants, transporting from Turbo - Antioquia to Bojayá – department of Chocó, two tons of aid, 280 food baskets, 15 sacks of clothes, meeting chairs, among other basic necessities to be distributed to those hit in this emergency.
Simultaneously, after the declaration by the state, a unified command checkpoint was established with the authorities, including the Government of the Department of Chocó, the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management - UNGRD, Colombian National Army, the National Police, the Civil Defense, the Ombudsman's Office and the Red Cross, to carry out the coordination and monitoring of the distribution of humanitarian aid and the necessary operations to provide support to those disturbed in this emergency.
This morning, Navy Infantry units arrived in the municipality of Bojayá to distribute the first aid in the area.
