So far this year, the Colombian Navy has found 310 tons of cocaine, 149 have been found in the Colombian Caribbean, damaging the financial structures of these illegal organizations.
Within the framework of naval sea control operations, the Colombian Navy, with the support of the Colombian Aerospace Force, managed to deal a serious blow to the organizations serving drug trafficking with the finding of drugs with a cost of close to 15 million dollars.
According to the investigations, units of the Caribbean Naval Force carried out the maritime interception of a go fast type ship traveling north of Puerto Bol铆var in the department of La Guajira, the crew of the boat when they realized the existence of the naval units they started to escape. The effective operation of the Colombian sailors led to the immobilization of the ship with its three crew members (two Dominicans and one Venezuelan), eleven sacks and a pack of packets of suspected illicit substance, a pistol, a magazine and nine cartridges were found by troops inside.
In continuity of operations in the sector, the second interception was carried out, in which, thanks to the monitoring of a naval unit with the support of an aircraft of the Caribbean Naval Air Group and an aircraft of the Colombian Aerospace Force, found a suspicious ship.
The crew of the boat, two Dominicans, when they felt cornered, left an indeterminate amount of sacks at sea. The difficult meteorological conditions in the area put the lives of the crew of the suspect ship at risk, so the sailors of the Caribbean Naval Force, in compliance with their constitutional mission, safeguarded their lives and recovered six sacks of the sea. The boat sank due to the difficult weather conditions.
The drug found with the five individuals was taken to Riohacha to make the relevant legal operations before the Attorney General's Office. There, the Approved Preliminary Identification Test - PIPH was carried out on the substance, determining that it was 440.8 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride and 5.3 kilograms of hashish.
Within the framework of the maritime strategy, the Colombian Navy will continue to carry out operations in the areas under its responsibility, in order to work to increase Human Security and continue weakening the sources of financing of organizations serving drug trafficking.
