In the framework of joint operations conducted by the Colombian Navy and Colombian National Army, a laboratory that apparently belonged to the Organized Armed Group E10 Rafael Aguilera was found and destroyed, in which up to three tons of coca base paste were processed monthly, in the department of Cauca.
Troops of the Navy Infantry River Battalion No. 42 of the Colombian Navy and Infantry Battalion No. 56 of Colombian National Army, arrived at Puerto Saija, a rural area of the municipality of Timbiquí, where they found a rudimentary structure of more than 25 meters wide and five meters long, in which there were 720 gallons of liquid supplies and 640 kilograms of solid supplies, among other elements used for the production of coca base paste.
According to information obtained by Naval Intelligence, with the destruction of this laboratory, the Organized Armed Group E10 Rafael Aguilera stops producing 100 kilograms of coca base paste per day and three tons per month.
According to the System for the Monitoring of Illicit Plantations – SIMCI, coca base paste is the first product that is extracted of the coca leaf, to then be rendered to a process of refinement and elimination of impurities, through which the coca base is obtained and transformed into cocaine hydrochloride.
