An improvised explosive device that was ready to detonate near a bridge, with the capacity to hit up to 50 meters, was found and subsequently destroyed in controlled conditions by troops of the Colombian Navy in the department of Sucre.
Intelligence information of the Naval Institution and the National Police, led the troops of the Navy Infantry Battalion No.14 and units of the Explosives and Demining Company No.1 attached to the Navy Infantry Brigade No.1, to reach the sector known as Los Manguitos, rural area of the village of Pechilín, in the municipality of Morroa - Sucre.
After arduous search efforts, members of the Military Forces managed to find the explosive material that was buried on the side of the road near the Arroyo Escobar bridge.
This cylinder-type improvised explosive device that was ready to be activated, contained inside 30 kilograms of nitrated substance, a high-powered explosive capable of hitting up to 50 meters. In addition, a 12-volt battery and 100 meters of two wire cable were found by troops.
The material was deactivated and after complying with the established protocols and procedures, it was destroyed in the area in controlled conditions by a group of experts.
As it could be established, the explosive material belonged to the Manuel José Gaitán substructure of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, to hit the Military Forces that permanently carry out military search and control operations in the area.
With this important finding, the Colombian Navy, through the Caribbean Naval Force, thwarted the terrorist intentions of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo that try to generate violence, violating International Humanitarian Law.
