Through this operation, the Naval Institution prevented the marketing of more than 230 thousand doses of drugs on the streets of the world.
992 kilograms of narcotics were found by troops by units of the Colombian Navy during comprehensive maritime security and control operations, when they were transported aboard a ship manned by three Costa Rican nationals, who were traveling through the waters of the central Pacific.
The finding was reported when Colombian Sailors in the area, detected a boat that was traveling suspiciously.
Immediately, the naval personnel deployed a Rapid Reaction Unit - URR of the Coast Guard Station of Buenaventura, initiating the maritime interception operation. When carrying out the procedure, the naval authority found different bags with alleged illicit material inside the ship. However, due to the adverse weather conditions, the boat sank. The military personnel secured the individuals and 38 sacks containing 935 packages, which were taken to the facilities of the Buenaventura Coast Guard Station.
On the place, the Technical Staff of Criminal Investigation - CTI, of the Attorney General's Office, carried out the Approved Preliminary Identification Test – PIPH, which left positive result for marijuana weighing 960 kilograms and 32 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride. Through this operation, more than seven million dollars were prevented from entering the illegal activities of the Residual Organized Armed Groups that commit crimes in the region and use maritime roads as routes for the transport of illicit substances. The three individuals, aged 24, 34 and 46, were put into custody of the Attorney General's Office for their respective prosecution. The Colombian Navy reaffirms its commitment to the fight against drug trafficking and the protection of national sovereignty, implementing effective strategies to counter these illicit activities in the Colombian Pacific.
