Minister Velásquez committed himself with the Truth Commission to contribute from the military forces in the construction of peace.

In order to recognize the operation carried out by the Truth Commission, in the work to clarify the patterns and causes of the armed conflict in Colombia, the Minister of Defense, Iván Velásquez met with its director Father Francisco de Roux and several of the delegations.
During this meeting held at the facilities of the Ministry of National Defense, where the military and police high command in the same way participated, the head of the ministry assured that “we must contribute to the construction of the country for which we have worked (...) There must be a new relationship of the Military Forces with the country, regarding the defense of the communities.”
At the meeting, the president of the Truth Commission, father Francisco de Roux, assured that the transformation of the security system must represent security for Colombians “by being accompanied by the Military and Police Forces, there must be collective trust among all and determination to stop being at war.”
The meeting in the same way served to present and deepen the Truth Report before the Minister and his military and police commanders, so some of the topics of the report were addressed, such as the phenomenon of paramilitarism, the recruitment of minors, military and police intelligence, notion of territorial control, civil power and military power and the new vision of territorial peace.
After the presentation of the issues developed in the report, the delegations expressed their desire to continue working for the truth in Colombia, and for their part, the Military and Police Commanders expressed their support for continuing to build and contribute to the country from their work.
“This is the beginning, and with this report we will work to have clarity in that scope that we have, that of peace, and for this we will count on all our resources to achieve that objective,” said the commander of the Military Forces, General Helder Giraldo.
Finally, Minister Velásquez said that with the Truth Report, it is possible to begin to look for points of reconciliation with the reflections of all the actors.
