In the year, the Colombian Navy, through the troops of the Navy Infantry Brigade No.4, has carried out decisive military operations, joint with the National Army, coordinated with the National Police and inter-institutional with the Attorney General's Office, harming and destabilizing the different criminal organizations that threaten the security of Colombians in the department of Nariño.
This is how 25 members of the residual GAO-r Organized Armed Groups that commit crimes in this area of the country have been arrested and 58 firearms, 3,574 ammunition of different calibers, nine improvised explosive devices and about 790 million pesos in smuggled products have been found.
In the frame of the loss to the links of the drug trafficking chain, the crew of the Naval Institution found and destroyed 23 illegal constructions used for the production of narcotic substances and found more than a ton of cocaine hydrochloride and about 24,000 gallons of fuel, a chemical substance that apparently would be used or destined for the extraction, transformation and refining of narcotics.
Additionally, three semi-submarines were found by troops, illegal devices used to transport four and six tons of illicit drugs each, with this finding troops economically hit the GAO-r Segunda Marquetalia and the Western Coordinating Command by more than one and a half million dollars.
With regard to the protection of the environment, water, biodiversity and life, the immobilization of an excavator valued at approximately 400 million pesos and a dredger valued at more than 100 million pesos, belonging to the agents that Generate Violence that carry out common crime activities in the area, was carried out. The machinery was being used for illegal mining, an activity that represents the largest source of pollution in the rivers of the Colombian Pacific.
In the same way, in different river control operations, it has been reported the recovery of 55 specimens of endangered wildlife, which allegedly would have been illegally marketed for human consumption.
Finally, 150 activities have been carried out for the benefit of the inhabitants, including development support activities, humanitarian assistance and awareness-raising campaigns, benefiting 20,500 people of the South Pacific region of the department of Nariño.
