The agreement aims to increase the availability of native forest specimens for ecosystem restoration, through an ecological nursery.
It in the same way includes an important social component, since it promotes peace and stability in areas that have been hit by conflicts.
With the objective of increasing the availability of native forest specimens, especially those that are classified as threatened, necessary for restoration, reforestation activities in rural and urban areas of the department, the Regional Autonomous Corporation of the Magdalena CORPAMAG and the First Division of Colombian National Army of Colombia signed an agreement of wills, with a duration of 5 years.
The event, which was held at the Instruction, Training and Recurrent training Battalion No. 2 in the municipality of Aracataca, counted on the attendance of the General Director of CORPAMAG, Alfredo Martínez Gutiérrez, and Brigadier General Royer Gómez Herrera, commander of the First Division of Colombian National Army.
“Through this agreement of wills, we will begin, hand in hand with the Army, the production of plant material of approximately 150 thousand trees, which will be used for the restoration of ecosystems, either within the framework of the projects or distributed to organized communities whose purpose is to improve the environmental conditions of their territories” Said the General Director of CORPAMAG Alfredo Martínez Gutiérrez.
This agreement contemplates the implementation of an ecological nursery that will work in the BITER-2 Instruction, Training and Recurrent training Battalion and will have the defined technical specifications for its optimal operation, with the permanent advice of CORPAMAG and the manpower of the Army personnel.
“This nursery will led to start reforestation operations in areas impacted by deforestation. The intention is that other companies and institutions will be linked to this project that seeks to improve ecosystems, forests and protect the department's water sources” Said Brigadier General Royer Gómez Herrera, commander of the First Division of Colombian National Army.
This alliance in the same way includes the training of military personnel and local communities in reforestation and environmental care, with the purpose of not only restoring ecosystems, but in the same way promoting a culture of biodiversity conservation in the different sectors of the department.
This joint work in the same way has an important social component, since it promotes peace and stability in areas that have been hit by conflicts, demonstrating that environmental protection and sustainable development are essential pillars for the construction of a prosperous future in the department of Magdalena.
