The information from the inhabitants in the rural area of the department of Chocó, led the troops of the Colombian Navy finding and destroying an Improvised Explosive Device - IED on the banks of the San Juan River.
Responding in a timely manner to the call of an inhabitant of the village Cabeceras in the Coastal municipality of San Juan, who alerted about the existence of a strange element on the banks of the San Juan River, when he was sailing in his rudimentary boat, units of the Navy Infantry River Battalion No.24 arrived at this area and conducted a thorough ground check, where they found the explosive device.
Subsequently, he was transferred to the personal area of the Explosives and Demining Company No.2 of the Colombian Navy that carried out the controlled destruction of the device, whose shape was cylindrical, approximately 40 centimeters long with a weight of 10 kilograms.
According to preliminary intelligence information, it is presumed that this device had apparently been left in place by members of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo,” putting the lives of the inhabitants of the San Juan Coast in imminent danger.
The Naval Institution is calling on people to, in case of finding such items, prevent handling them and immediately notify the authorities, who have trained personnel for the handling of explosive devices.
The Colombian Navy will continue to carry out operations in compliance with the Joint Campaign Plan Ayacucho, which will lead to provide tranquility to the inhabitants of the Colombian Pacific, working for their safety and good physical condition.
