The Colombian Air Force in alliance with the non – governmental Organization - NGO - Techo Colombia transported in a 727 Vulcano aircraft more than eight tons with structures for the construction of six emergency houses and a community hall for the María Teresa neighborhood of Cúcuta.
In each mission of the Colombian Air Force, the members of the institution have in the soul the expression of gratitude, joy and hope that are framed in the eyes of Colombians every time the aircraft and crews arrive in the different towns of the country.
On this occasion, the eyes of Mrs. Lucy, one of the inhabitants of the benefited sector, were filled with tears due to the happiness when she knew that very soon she would have a new house, since during 12 years she lived in a cambuche [a rudimentary construction] built with zinc tiles, fabric walls and some wooden boards; now she will enjoy a worthy place for herself and her loved ones.
“I thank with all my heart you have been with us, my Air Force and the Techo Foundation have fulfilled an important dream for my life, and I will carry it forever in my heart,” says Lucy with emotional voice.
This infrastructure project, which led to the benefit of Ms. Lucy and five other Colombian families, was carried out thanks to the alliance of the Colombian Air Force with the non – governmental Organization - NGO Techo Colombia, through the Air Combat Command No.1-CACOM 1, the Military Transport Air Command – CATAM -, with the support of the Specific Command of Norte de Santander-CENOR.
In addition, the volunteer staff of this organization went to the place with the tools to be used for the construction of the emergency houses, which have an approximate area of 18 square meters and the community hall with about 36 square meters.
“As an organization, It is vital to work in networks, to be able to link with the Colombian Air Force to be able to transport these structures by air, which are a significant contribution to this community,” says Lina Ontibón, Social Director of Techo Colombia.
