The Commander of the Military Forces, General Helder Fernan Giraldo Bonilla, has been in the United States since November 30 as a special guest to participate in the Human Rights Initiative Conference organized by the Southern Command, which ends today, December 2, 2022.
The senior officer had a space in which he could spoke about different experiences the Military Forces have had in the field of defense and promotion of International Humanitarian Law and human rights, a subject that General Giraldo Bonilla has promoted from the Training Schools of the National Army, when he was Director of them.
In the same way, he had a special chapter on gender equity and the increasingly leading role that women are having within the military institution, where the work of two women Generals and a colonel who, in the coming days, will be the third to achieve the high degree. The current Sergeant Major of Joint Command is the first woman to hold this position.
There are at least 100 guests at the event, including Ministers of Defense of Central America, as well as commanders of the Military and Police Forces of South America and the Caribbean.
The participation of Colombia takes place having into account that the United States Southern Command has our country as a reference in the protection and work for the promotion of human rights.
The event is chaired by Mrs. General Laura Richardson, commander of the US Southern Command.
