The firefight took place amid the reaction of the troops to a new attack with drones and explosives perpetrated by this illegal armed group. The soldiers repelled the terrorist operation, in the same way damaging this residual structure with the neutralization of three of its members.
As a result of the permanent operation carried out by the troops of the Twenty-Ninth Brigade and in response to the recent criminal actions carried out by the residual organized armed group Jaime Martínez, the troops of this military unit would have neutralized the threat posed by three of its members during combats reported in the rural area of the village of Ortega in the municipality of Cajibío, in the center of the department of Cauca.
The maneuvers of the troops of the 7th Infantry Battalion, General José Hilario López, repelled a terrorist attack that members of the Jaime Martínez –GAOr, were planning to execute against the security operation that is constant in this area, using once again drones with explosives, these being unconventional methods of warfare in accordance with the Geneva Conventions of 1977.
Military intelligence information has led to establishing that more members of this illegal group are injured due to the operation of the troops, as well as establishing the whereabouts of the bodies, which would have been transported in vans by members of this residual structure.
At the scene of the events, elements alluding to the Jaime Martínez front were found, such as personal elements that would correspond to the alleged members of the illegal structure, which will be put into custody of the authorities. Despite this, the authorities will determine the possible losses of other members that made up the structure.
This operation, which was made possible thanks to a joint and coordinated work with the Colombian Aerospace Force, leads to continue countering the criminal intentions of illegal armed groups to expand in the department of Cauca. In addition, troops also counter the criminal operations of this residual structure that persists in committing serious violations of IHL and transgressing human rights by continuing to use drones for the indiscriminate launch of improvised explosive devices that put the inhabitants at risk.
The security operations have been strengthened in northern municipalities such as Corinto, Toribio and Suárez and in the south, in Argelia, Balboa and Patía, through the reinforcement of troops that are currently destined to ensure the security of the inhabitants of Cauca.
