The search and rescue operation continues, in order to find the whereabouts of four people who are apparently missing.
Surface, Coast Guard and Naval Aviation Units of the Colombian Navy, jointly with the Colombian Aerospace Force and coordinated with the Maritime General Directorate, are carrying out a search and rescue operation in the Punta Sur sector, approximately one nautical mile west of the island of San Andrés, after receiving an alert about a boat that had shipwrecked while apparently sailing with irregular migrants in the early morning of today.
Thanks to the efforts made by the authorities, nine adults have been rescued alive: a Colombian, an Ecuadorian, an Iranian, a Nicaraguan, two from Kazakhstan, and three Venezuelans. Two minors from Kazakhstan, three Venezuelans and one whose nationality has not been identified were in the same way rescued. In the same way, a lifeless body was recovered.
According to the rescued personnel, 20 passengers were traveling on the boat, so currently the search and rescue efforts of the four people who apparently would be missing are still ongoing.
The search and rescue operation continues in the area, using current and tidal models, with which the possible finding of the shipwrecked can be predicted. In the same way, the Maritime Authority issued a bulletin on the matter and is in constant communication with the navigators of the region, in order to keep them informed about the situation so that they can provide valuable information.
It should be noted that irregular migration by sea represents a high risk to people's lives, because the minimum safety conditions for navigation, such as life jackets or communication equipment, are not taken into account.
