In 2021, 35 people have been rescued in the island region by units of the Naval Institution.
Coast Guard units of the Colombian Navy rescued six Colombian fishermen who were adrift, when the boat in which they were traveling on the San Andrés – Providencia route, suffered mechanical failures in its propulsion system.
The Colombian fishing boat named Sishell was reported in emergency to the maritime authorities when it was transiting 31 nautical miles south of the Island of Providencia; a Rapid Reaction Unit-URR - of the Coast Guard Station of Providencia was sent to find the boat.
The successful search and rescue operation took place in the timely reaction of the crew of the Naval Institution, who arrived at the point of emergency, where, after verifying the good health of the six fishermen, troops proceeded to accompany the civilian boat Blessed Family that supported the maneuver of towing the boat to the sector of Los Almendros in San Andrés island.
This year, the Coast Guard Units attached to the Specific Command of San Andrés and Providencia have managed to safeguard the human life at sea of 35 people; who, after enduring some type of emergency on the seas, adrift or shipwrecked, have been rescued in the waters of the Caribbean Sea belonging to the Archipelago department.
