The timely reaction of Coast Guard units of the Colombian Navy led to the rescue of four young people, who shipwrecked when traveling over the Tumaco Bay, in Nariño.
The events occurred when the crew of the Ship ARC Bahía Colombia, a Pacific Naval Force Unit, which was carrying out operations in Tumaco, detected two men and two women in the water, clinging to a ship that was partially sunk.
The crew immediately notified the Tumaco Coast Guard Station, which together with a unit of the Navy Infantry Battalion No. 40, launched the rescue operation that safeguarded the lives of the four people, including an under 15 years old girl.
Once aboard the Units, Colombian Navy crew members verified the health status of the rescued, who were in good health. Subsequently, they were taken with the boat and towed to the pier of the Tumaco Coast Guard Station.
“We were coming from the Morro and arriving, the boat turned to one side and we shipwrecked. We thank the Coast Guard who saved us,” said the young men, 15 and 25 years old.
