After a year of demining work, the communities of Zambrano and El Carmen de Bolívar enjoy safe environments for their livability.
In the framework of the campaign La Vida es Primero (Life goes first) In the Montes de Maria region, the Navy of Colombia with the participation of civilian authorities and representatives of the Organization of American States –OAS-, presented zones free of suspected contamination of mines to the owners of three areas in the municipalities of El Carmen de Bolívar and Zambrano, Bolivar department.
Crew members of the Humanitarian Demining Company of the Navy Infantry Brigade No.1 began their clearance work in these specific areas at the end of 2019, implementing the manual demining technique to clear 4,778 meters, finding in one of the areas an anti-personnel mine, which was deactivated under controlled conditions by expert personnel.
The hard work of decontamination carried out by Navy troops to eliminate the threat of anti-personnel mines that endanger the lives of the inhabitants of the Montes de María subregion is carried out within the framework of compliance with strict international security protocols and the highest quality standards.
The Naval institution invites civilians to maintain security measures and to give immediate notice to the authorities if there are new suspicions of contamination with anti-personnel mines, improvised explosive devices and unexploded ordnance on roads, farms or rural areas of the region.
