The destruction of two explosive devices was in the same way possible this week.
The four areas that were identified as dangerous were presented free of suspicion of landmines in the departments of Bolívar and Sucre, after more than 10 months of manual demining and clearance by the Humanitarian Demining Company of the Colombian Navy's Agrupación de Explosivos y Desminado de Infantería.
These are the sectors known as Hobo, Socorro and Tolemaida, in the municipality of El Carmen de Bolívar, in the department of Bolívar and the sector El Cerro, found in Colosó, in the department of Sucre. 9,108 square meters of areas free of suspicion of anti-personnel mines were given to the leaders and peasants of these sectors in the subregion of the Montes de María so that they can return to their territories and cultivate in these productive and fertile lands, thus contributing to the economic development and progress of the region.
During the work, 84 navy men participated, who will now be in charge of carrying out training activities on Mine Risk Education, with the purpose of providing tools to citizens that led them to identify this type of explosive devices and know the procedures to follow in case the devices are found in their territories.
Last week in the municipalities of El Carmen de Bolívar and Zambrano, in the department of Bolivar, the Colombian Navy found two explosive devices that apparently had been planted by outlaw groups more than 10 years ago , which, after complying with the established protocols, were destroyed in controlled conditions by a team of experts trained for that purpose.
With these operations, the Colombian Navy is progressing in the demining process, with the aim of turning the Montes de María subregion into an explosive device-free zone.
