Two Officers of the Colombian Navy arrived at the Rota Naval Base in the province of C谩diz in Spain, to join the European Union Naval Force Atalanta Integrated for Stabilization of the United Nations in Somalia, to work by the Horn of Africa and in the Western Indian Ocean, within the framework of the operations they are carried out to contribute to eradicate piracy in the sea of the coasts of Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden.
Frigate Captain Nicol谩s Mila Sandoval, will carry out this operation at the Headquarters at the Naval Base of Rota, Spain. There he will be in charge of participating in the decision-making process of the Operation, while naval Lieutenant Andr茅s Felipe Cadena Dur谩n, will be the Officer for the Embarked General Staff, and will sail on the Italian Frigate Carlo Bergamini and the Frigates Numancia and Santa Mar铆a of the Spanish Navy.
The participation of the Colombian Navy personnel in the International Operation Atalanta, which aims to contribute to the prevention and counter acts of piracy that occur at sea off the Horn of Africa and the Western Indian Ocean, will last for nine months in which it is intended to protect the Ships of the World Food Program (WFP), prevent Navy robbery at sea, combat piracy, monitor fishing activities off the coast of Somalia and support missions to strengthen maritime security.
Since 2015, the Colombian Navy has been participating in this operation, demonstrating its commitment to strengthening cooperation ties in matters of maritime security and defense at the international level.
