This year, the Colombian Navy has reported the finding of more than 7,500 gallons of fuel smuggled into Eastern Colombia.
In the course of four river operations on the Guaviare River, in the department of Guainía, the Military Forces reported the finding 2,760 gallons of fuel, which were transported in boats without documents proving their origin and legality.
The first operation was carried out in the El Coco sector, municipality of Inírida (Guainía), where in routine inspections, Colombian Navy troops, the National Army and the National Police found 1,140 gallons of contraband fuel, which were transported by a Venezuelan citizen aboard a metal boat (bongo).
The second finding occurred near the Amanaven sector, in Inírida (Guainía), when members of the Military Forces of the River Naval Infantry Battalion N. 50 of the Naval Institution, the Infantry Battalion No.45 of the National Army and the Guainía Police intercepted a boat, which was illegally transporting 720 gallons of gasoline. This boat was in the same way manned by a Venezuelan.
Finally, on the Río Negro, near San Felipe (Guainía), units attached to the Fuerza Naval del Oriente intercepted two ships, one manned by a Venezuelan and the other by a Colombian, carrying 480 and 420 gallons of contraband gasoline, respectively.
The fuel found was put into custody of the authorities. No arrests were made during the operations.
It should be noted that the inter-agency effort against the illegal activities in the Eastern Colombia has been essential in 2022, reporting the finding of 7,568 gallons of smuggled fuel, which is used, among other things, in the different stages of the illicit extraction of mineral resources. This operation contributes in this way, in the protection of the environment preventing the contamination that this type of illegal practices generate in the territories where they impact.
