This operation hit this crime group in Bajo Baudó and directly affected its coordination capacity for criminal activities.
Troops of the Colombian Navy found and destroyed, in controlled conditions, a camp that apparently was used as a communication center of the Organized Armed Group (GAO) Clan del Golfo, in which abundant war material was seized.
The events took place in the rural area of the municipality of Bajo Baudó, in the sector of Barrancón, in the department of Chocó, where Marines of the Colombian Navy contacted the alleged members of the GAO Clan del Golfo, who fled when they noticed the presence of the troops.
The criminal camp had a capacity for 10 people. Troops found inside a hideout with war material and military accessories such as two rifles, 316 cartridges of different calibers, two magazines, seven military vests, military pants, an assault backpack, two communications radios, a radio charger, four radio antennas, printed material, propaganda and 60 kilograms of dry food.
Subsequently, it was possible to capture an individual identified as alias Tado or Copete, alleged member of the GAO Clan del Golfo, who -according to intelligence information- had carried out criminal activities in the area for 6 months. The individual and the material found were put into custody of the authorities.
With these operations, the Colombian Navy through the Pacific Naval Force ratifies its commitment to counter criminal operations of Organized Armed Groups that commit crimes in this region of the Colombian Pacific, thus contributing to the security and peace of Indigenous and Black people communities. In the same way, the Colombian Pacific community is asked to report any suspicious or illegal act on the free lines 146 and 147, available 24 hours a day.
