In the course of maritime control operations, the Colombian Navy seized 60 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride attached to the hull of a Singapore-flagged carrier-type ship in the waters of the department of La Guajira.
Thanks to intelligence information, a Coast Guard Rapid Reaction Unit was sent to the anchorage area, where divers of the Primary Coast Guard Station of Santa Marta conducted an underwater inspection of the high-board boat, finding a strange object similar to a metal box in the hull, which was extracted and transported aboard the Naval Unit to Riohacha - La Guajira.
Once at the dock, a detailed check was carried out on the extracted object, finding inside 60 rectangular packages similar to those used by drug trafficking organizations for the transportation of narcotics. In coordination with officials of the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) Attorney General's Office, the Approved Preliminary Identification Test was carried out leaving positive result for 60.24 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.
The drug, which would cost more than four million dollars on the international illegal market, was put into custody of the authorities for safekeeping and destruction in accordance with the provisions of Colombian legislation.
The Colombian Navy will continue to carry out operations that dismantle the drug trafficking organizations that commit crimes in the Colombian Caribbean, and it also invites citizens to report any suspicious activity to the toll-free number 146.
