With this finding this drug was prevented from being distributed to more than 3.8 million people, protecting global public health.
In a coordinated operation, the Colombian Navy and the National Police find 1.5 tons of cocaine hydrochloride in the Boca de Tinajones sector in the municipality of San Bernardo del Viento, in the department of Córdoba.
The operation carried out using land, sea and air means, took place after an insertion of the troops, who find two illegal hiding places in a mangrove area near a stream that connects the Sinú river with the Colombian Caribbean Sea.
When verifying the site troops found 61 sacks with the illegal substance. According to the investigations, the drug belonged to the logistic and financial subsystem of the Organized Armed Group ,GAO, Clan del Golfo, which intended to send this cargo to North America by speedboats.
The cargo was transported to the Navy Brigade No.1 in which officials of the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Prosecutor's Office carried out the preliminary identification test, which left positive result for 1,518 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride. There were no arrests during the operation.
This outcome is the result of sustained operations carried out by the troops of the Navy Battalion No.14, the Caribbean Naval Special Forces Group, Explosives and Demining Company No.1, of the Coast Guard Station of Coveñas, units of the Aeronaval Group of the Caribbean, in a coordinated work with the Criminal Investigation Directorate of Sucre.
