Units of the Navy Infantry River Battalion No. 30 of the Colombian Navy in River operations coordinated with the National Police on the San Miguel river, found 243 cubic meters of wood, product of illegal trafficking of wild flora, in the municipality of Puerto Colon, San Miguel (Putumayo).
The wood was discovered on the Bank of the San Miguel river, and found because at the time of the review there was not any person who submit to the authority the respective documents and environmental licenses for their use and transportation. The material was put into custody of the Corporation for the Sustainable Development of Southern Amazonia (Corpoamazonia).
In recent years, the colombian Amazon has been hit by the criminal organizations that carry out activities of indiscriminate deforestation, without taking into account the environmental regulations for the preservation of the amazon ecosystem. This causes irreparable damage to the biosphere of the region, harming directly the endemic flora and fauna, and to the communities settled in the southeast of the country.
