Working for the protection and conservation of natural resources, units of the Colombian Navy found 2,378 cubic meters of wood, which were being transported irregularly by four individuals, on board a ship in the municipality of Turbo, Antioquia.
Crew members of the Coast Guard Station of Urabá carried out a search and control operation on a rudimentary ship, which was transporting pieces of Eucalyptus urograndis type wood, without the respective certificate of transportation of primary transformation products from forest plantations and / or commercial agroforestry systems reported.
The wood was hidden in the bottom of the boat, under various commercial elements.
The material was put into custody of the Corporation for the Sustainable Development of the Urabá – Corpourabá. In the same way, the arrested individuals were put into custody of the Judicial Police of District No. 2 of Turbo.
It should be noted that the overexploitation and exploitation of timber specimens without the respective authorization are prohibited, due to the state of vulnerability and/ or threat generated to the ecosystem.
