Coast Guard units of the Colombian navy carried out two humanitarian assistance operations in San Andrés, where they safeguarded the life of a person, who was adrift in the Sound Bay sector, to the southeast of the island and the evacuation of a minor from Cayo Acuario to the coasts of San Andres, after presenting acute respiratory problems.
In the first operation, a 16-year-old from Medellin was assisted by a Unit of Rapid-Reaction of the coast Guard Station of San Andrés which carried out maritime patrols in the area of the emergency, when it was alerted by the calls of help from family and tourists that were in the sector, indicating that the child had drowning and numbness in his legs.
Coast Guard crews provided first aid and the minor was evacuated in a Rapid Reaction Unit with his mother to the Dock Of The San Andrés Coast Guard Station, where he was received by staff of the regulatory Center for emergencies who took him to the local Hospital to provide specialized medical assistance.
24 hours later, the Navy of Colombia was in a new humanitarian assistance in the department Archipelago, where a fisherman from San Andres had an emergency at sea when the boat Miss Onixa suffered electrical failure in its main engine.
The emergency protocol for this type of operation was immediately activated and a Rapid Reaction Unit was deployed to the scene, rescuing the fisherman in good health and taking him to the Dock Of The San Andrés Coast Guard Station along with the towed boat.
The two successful operations were conducted after receiving timely emergency calls that led to the crew of the Tower of Traffic Control and Maritime Surveillance of San Andrés to guide the units of the coast Guard to the site of the evacuation, and hours later made the patterns of search and tracking radar to find the exact place were the boat was.
