The Colombian Navy through the Caribbean Naval Force, in coordination with the Mayor's Office of Cartagena, the University of Cartagena, the Metropolitan University of Barranquilla and different public and private organizations, carried out since April 12 a large humanitarian assistance activity to provide support to the island communities of Isla Fuerte, Santa Cruz del Islote, Puerto Caracol and Isla Múcura, in the archipelago of San Bernardo, approximately 28 nautical miles southeast of Cartagena.
This activity, which took place over three days, was made possible thanks to the leadership of the Colombian Navy, and the coordination with different national, regional and local organizations, benefiting more than 800 inhabitants of this region with the distribution of school kits, more than 168 thousand liters of drinking water, non-perishable food, and lighting for public spaces with solar energy donated by Public Companies of Medellín. During the activity, medical and dental assistance services, donation distribution, and State services were provided.
It should be noted that these activities are carried out with the logistical support of the ARC Golfo de Morrosquillo, Amphibious Landing ship manufactured in Colombia by the shipyard Corporation of Science and Technology for the Colombian Naval development, Maritime and River Industry - Cotecmar, which entered service in July 2016 with the capacity to transport more than 200 tons of cargo and more than 130 thousand gallons of water, with an excellent record of the military operation, especially in humanitarian assistance operations and support to civil authorities.
