For 15 days, the ARC Golfo de Urabá will have the mission of distributing humanitarian aid to seven communities in Alta Guajira.
In the department of Chocó, Navy Infantry units are transporting the aid provided by the government of this department.
The Naval Institution has all its human talent to provide support to those hit by this emergency.
Given the declaration of emergency made by the National Government last Sunday, November 10th, on the occasion of the damages caused by the rainy season that hits much of the country during this time of year, mainly the department of Chocó, Department of La Guajira and Bogotá, the Colombian Navy has arranged its resources, with the objective of providing humanitarian support and assistance to the civil authority, in the Caribbean communities that have been hit by this phenomenon.
Today, as part of this institutional work, the Amphibious Landing Ship ARC Golfo de Urabá sailed with six tons of humanitarian aid from Cartagena, which will carry out a supply with more than 120 tons of basic necessities and groceries, in Riohacha and Uribia, department of La Guajira, to support seven communities in this region of the country. In Bahía Honda, Bahía Hondita, Castilletes, Karasúa, Puerto Bolívar, Puerto Estrella and Puerto López, Colombian Sailors will distribute these aids to the villages in need, with the support of the Mobility Battalion, who will enter these desert territories with Navy Infantry men.
On the other hand, the Colombian Navy has conducted humanitarian assistance operations in the department of Chocó, where thanks to the support of Navy Infantry units, two tons of aid were distributed in the municipality of Bojayá. In the same way, other units will transport the elements arranged by the civil authorities, to counteract the effects of this wave caused by rains. The governor of the department of Chocó, Nubia Carolina Córdoba, sent a message of gratitude to the Naval Institution for its support to the victims of this region, where more than 85% of the territory has been hit.
Similarly, in Bolívar, in a coordinated work with the regional authorities, Colombian sailors have supported the transportation of agricultural products to mitigate the emergency in communities hit by this natural phenomenon.
